The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has announced that water supply to parts of Karachi will be temporarily suspended for two days starting on Saturday, April 25, due to maintenance work at the Dhabeji Pumping Station.
According to a KW&SC spokesperson, the suspension will allow for the connection of a newly constructed water line to the existing network at the Dhabeji Pumping Station. During this period, nine of the station’s pumps will be shut down for 48 hours.
Work at the station is scheduled to begin at 12 noon on April 25, with seven out of the nine pumps set to resume operation by April 27. However, two of the pumps will remain shut for an additional five days.
As a result of the suspension, water supply in several areas of Karachi will be disrupted. Affected areas include North Karachi, Surjani, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Saddar, Landhi, Korangi, and Chanesar Town. Additionally, hydrants in Nipa, Safoora, and Sakhi Hassan will remain closed for maintenance.
The city is expected to face a water shortage of approximately 250 million gallons per day, as Karachi typically receives around 650 million gallons of water daily. KW&SC has urged residents in the affected areas to use water efficiently during this period.
The water supply is expected to resume on April 27, with ongoing work at the pumping station to address further needs.
