Rumors regarding a complete lockdown in Islamabad and Rawalpindi have been officially addressed by the district administration. Following the viral spread of a fake notification claiming a city-wide closure starting April 20, Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon stepped forward to clarify the situation. He confirmed that educational institutions and private offices across the majority of the federal capital will remain open and functional. Citizens are strongly advised to ignore unverified social media posts and rely strictly on official channels for any future updates regarding city operations.

While the city at large remains open, specific measures have been implemented for the Red Zone. A formal notification from the Cabinet Division has directed all federal ministries and government offices located within this high-security perimeter to adopt a work-from-home policy for Monday, April 20. Essential staff and officers are required to remain available at short notice, but physical entry into the area is heavily restricted. The Islamabad district magistrate noted that these precautions are necessary to maintain order during high-profile diplomatic movements.

The heightened security coincides with the expected arrival of a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance. These officials are visiting Pakistan to participate in crucial peace talks involving regional stability. To facilitate the movement of foreign dignitaries, traffic diversions are in place, and public transport within the capital has been temporarily suspended. Additionally, heavy-goods vehicles have been barred from entering the twin cities.

In Rawalpindi, the local administration has mirrored these steps by suspending goods transport to ensure a smooth flow of security convoys. With US cargo planes already landing at local airbases, the city is witnessing a visible increase in security personnel and barbed wire installations around key venues like the Serena Hotel. The government emphasizes that these security protocols are temporary and aimed at ensuring the safety of international guests while minimizing long-term disruption for the residents of the twin cities.
