In a heartbreaking turn of events, the Islamabad kidnapping case involving 30-year-old Farrukh Afzal has reached a grim conclusion. Authorities confirmed on Tuesday that the young man’s body was recovered from the Mardan district, showing visible signs of brutal torture. The discovery has sent shockwaves through the capital, raising serious concerns regarding public safety in high-security zones.
The harrowing incident began around midnight in the F-6/1 area, a neighborhood situated near the capital’s Red Zone. As Farrukh was returning home and attempting to open his gate, he was ambushed by four armed men. Despite his father and neighbors rushing out to intervene upon hearing his screams, the kidnappers opened fire to deter any rescue attempts and forcibly took him away in a vehicle.
Following the abduction, the Kohsar police station registered a First Information Report (FIR). However, the victim’s family has expressed deep frustration over the perceived police negligence. Relatives argue that if law enforcement had acted swiftly by placing immediate roadblocks, the kidnappers might have been intercepted before leaving the city. The fact that armed criminals could traverse from a “safe city” zone to Mardan has sparked a heated debate over security protocols.
Despite the tragic outcome, there has been progress in the criminal investigation. Police successfully tracked down and arrested the main suspect along with a female accomplice in Swat. Additionally, the getaway vehicle used during the kidnapping has been recovered and taken into custody for forensic analysis.
Currently, the body of Farrukh Afzal has been shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a necessary post-mortem examination.
