The possibility of a peace agreement between Iran and the United States appears closer than ever, even as fresh military activity continues near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Officials from both countries have indicated that a preliminary agreement could be finalized within days, potentially ending months of conflict and opening the door for broader diplomatic negotiations.

According to reports, the proposed agreement includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route responsible for transporting a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas supplies. In exchange, the United States is expected to ease restrictions on Iranian ports and consider the release of frozen Iranian assets.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that while some details of the agreement remain under discussion, the draft deal demonstrates that Iran has emerged from the conflict in a stronger position. He emphasized that future negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear programme would take place after the initial agreement is signed.

Despite the positive diplomatic signals, security concerns remain. US forces recently intercepted several Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz, citing potential threats to commercial shipping traffic. The incident highlights the fragile nature of the situation and the challenges both sides face in maintaining stability during negotiations.

The draft agreement reportedly outlines a framework for future nuclear talks, including discussions about Iran’s uranium stockpile, international inspections, and long-term compliance measures. However, differences remain regarding the future of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, with Tehran seeking to preserve certain aspects of its programme.

Meanwhile, Israel has made it clear that it is not participating in the negotiations. Israeli officials have stated that they intend to maintain the ability to respond independently to any perceived security threats in the region.

If finalized, the agreement could mark a significant turning point in Middle Eastern geopolitics, reducing tensions, restoring commercial shipping routes, and creating new opportunities for diplomatic engagement. However, with several issues still unresolved, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether both sides can transform the draft framework into a lasting peace arrangement.
