The current geopolitical landscape is shifting as US President Donald Trump expresses cautious optimism regarding a potential Iran nuclear deal. During a recent event at the White House, Trump indicated that a breakthrough is “very possible,” though he coupled this sentiment with a stern warning. If negotiations fail to meet American expectations, the President threatened to resume military strikes with increased intensity.

A central point of the discussions involves the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor. In a show of good faith to foster dialogue, the US military recently paused operations intended to break the Iranian blockade of the waterway. Despite this gesture, tensions remain high as reports indicate the US Navy disabled a tanker attempting to bypass the current naval blockade.

The Iranian government is currently reviewing the latest US proposal. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei confirmed that Tehran is evaluating the plan and will communicate its formal position through Pakistan, which is acting as a key diplomatic mediator. However, some Iranian leaders, including Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, remain skeptical, accusing Washington of using economic pressure and media tactics to force a surrender.

On the international front, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed hope that this momentum will lead to durable peace in the region. Meanwhile, Iranian diplomats have engaged with Chinese officials in Beijing to discuss a new regional framework for security. While Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that offensive operations have momentarily ceased, a UN Security Council resolution is being drafted to address the ongoing maritime conflict. As the world watches, the possibility of a one-page deal framework offers a slim but significant hope for de-escalation.
