Pakistan has welcomed the extension of the Iran ceasefire, expressing renewed hope for a major diplomatic breakthrough in the ongoing negotiations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif publicly appreciated US President Donald Trump for agreeing to extend the truce, calling it a crucial step toward achieving lasting regional peace.

According to the prime minister, the decision came after Pakistan’s formal request, highlighting Islamabad’s active role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. He emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to supporting a peaceful resolution and will continue its diplomatic efforts with full sincerity.

The conflict, which initially began with joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran, quickly escalated into a broader regional crisis. After weeks of rising tensions, Pakistan successfully brokered a two week ceasefire, creating space for dialogue. Now, with the extension in place, hopes are high for a comprehensive peace agreement during the second round of talks expected in Islamabad.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that the ceasefire extension aims to give Iran sufficient time to prepare a unified negotiation proposal. While US forces remain on standby, diplomatic engagement continues to be the primary focus. Meanwhile, Washington is reportedly preparing to send a high level delegation, possibly including Vice President JD Vance and other key officials.

However, uncertainty remains as Iran has yet to confirm its participation in the upcoming talks. The first round of discussions, which lasted over 20 hours, ended without a breakthrough due to disagreements over nuclear programs, sanctions, and regional security issues.

Pakistan’s leadership, including Ishaq Dar and Attaullah Tarar, has strongly urged both sides to prioritize dialogue and diplomacy. Officials stress that continued engagement is the only viable path to achieving long term stability in the region.

As Islamabad prepares to host the next round of negotiations, the extended ceasefire offers a critical window of opportunity. If both sides show flexibility, this moment could lead to a historic peace deal that reshapes the regional landscape.
