Haris Rauf’s drop from the T20 World Cup 2026 squad is emerging as a strong possibility as Pakistan finalizes preparations for the mega tournament scheduled in India and Sri Lanka. According to reliable sources, the Pakistan Cricket Board is unlikely to include the experienced fast bowler in the 15-member squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will run from February 7 to March 8.
The decision reportedly stems from concerns raised by head coach Mike Hesson, who is not convinced about Haris Rauf’s recent T20 performances. Rauf last featured for Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final against India, where he struggled badly. In that high-pressure match, the right-arm pacer conceded 50 runs in just 3.4 overs and failed to take a wicket. Pakistan eventually lost the final as India chased down the target comfortably.
Despite being Pakistan’s highest T20I wicket taker, with 133 wickets in 94 matches, Rauf’s recent form has raised serious questions among the team management. While he is currently playing in the Big Bash League for the Melbourne Stars, domestic and international performances appear to have weighed heavily on the selectors’ thinking.
Sources confirm that the PCB has already submitted a preliminary squad list to the ICC, although changes can still be made until January 31 without formal approval. The consultations are also linked with Pakistan’s upcoming home T20I series against Australia, which is expected to influence final selections.
The probable squad features key names such as Salman Ali Agha, Babar Azam, Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Players like Naseem Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, and Faheem Ashraf are also under consideration, while Abdul Samad and Mohammad Wasim Jr are expected to be named as reserves.
Pakistan has been placed in Group A alongside India, the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia, with all group matches scheduled in Sri Lanka. The campaign will begin against the Netherlands on February 7 in Colombo, followed by the much-anticipated clash against India on February 15.
