Pakistan women’s cricket captain Fatima Sana has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Pakistani woman cricketer selected for The Hundred, one of the world’s most popular franchise cricket tournaments. The talented all rounder was picked by Birmingham Phoenix during the wildcard draft, marking a significant moment for Pakistan women’s cricket on the global stage.

Fatima Sana earned her place after delivering impressive performances for Pakistan in recent international matches. Her selection came shortly after a remarkable all round display against South Africa at Edgbaston. Batting at number eight, she played a fearless innings of 55 not out from 38 balls, helping Pakistan post a competitive total. She then showcased her bowling skills by taking three wickets for 16 runs, nearly guiding her team to victory.

The Birmingham Phoenix had an overseas spot available after Australian player Lucy Hamilton was withdrawn due to workload management. The franchise moved quickly to secure Fatima Sana, recognizing her growing reputation as one of the most promising all rounders in women’s cricket.

The Pakistan captain is set to earn the tournament’s minimum salary of £15,000, which is approximately 5.6 million Pakistani rupees. However, her availability may be limited because Pakistan’s scheduled tour of Sri Lanka overlaps with part of The Hundred competition.

Fatima Sana’s inclusion also highlights the increasing recognition of Pakistani talent in major franchise leagues. She joins fellow Pakistani players Usman Tariq and Abrar Ahmed, who have also secured contracts in this year’s tournament. Their participation demonstrates that Pakistani cricketers continue to attract interest from leading franchises despite changing ownership structures within global cricket competitions.

The Hundred will run from July 21 to August 16, featuring top international and domestic stars from around the world. For Pakistan cricket fans, Fatima Sana’s selection represents a proud achievement and an important step forward for women’s cricket. Her participation will not only inspire young female cricketers across Pakistan but also showcase the country’s talent on one of cricket’s biggest franchise stages.
