Pakistan has successfully test-fired the extended-range version of its Fatah-2 hypersonic ballistic missile, marking another major step in the country’s advanced weapons programme. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the launch on Tuesday, highlighting the weapon’s impressive capabilities.
According to the military’s media wing, the Fatah-2 Extended Range system comes fitted with advanced navigation technology and modern avionics. These features allow the missile to strike targets with high precision while using a unique flight path and strong manoeuvrability that can defeat enemy missile defence systems. Officials noted that the longer range will significantly boost the Pakistan Army’s ability to hit deep targets far from its borders.
The test took place under the watch of the Commander of the Army Rocket Force Command, along with senior army officers, scientists, and engineers who worked on the project. The commander praised the team for their hard work and technical skill in developing this sophisticated weapon.
Top national leaders quickly offered congratulations. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the services chiefs all applauded the scientists and engineers behind the successful launch.
This achievement follows closely on the heels of another recent success. Just days earlier, Pakistan carried out a successful test of the extended-range Fatah-4 ground-launched cruise missile. That system also features advanced avionics and navigation aids, enabling it to hit distant targets with accuracy and strong impact.
Together, these tests show Pakistan’s steady progress in building a modern rocket force capable of precise, long-range strikes. The Fatah-2 missile and its related systems strengthen the country’s defence posture by adding speed, range, and the ability to overcome sophisticated air defences. Military experts view such developments as important steps in maintaining strategic balance in the region.
The successful launch of the extended-range Fatah-2 demonstrates both technical maturity and the dedication of Pakistan’s scientific community. With continued focus on indigenous development, the armed forces are expanding their options for deterrence and rapid response.
