The Sindh government has announced a public holiday for all educational institutions on March 11 in observance of Youm-e-Ali, which marks the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA). The day falls on the 21st of Ramadan and is widely observed across Pakistan with religious gatherings and processions.
According to an official notification issued by the provincial authorities, all public and private schools and colleges in Sindh will remain closed on Wednesday, March 11. The decision was taken following recommendations made by the Sub Committee of the Steering Committee on Education, which oversees major academic decisions in the province.
Every year, Youm-e-Ali is observed with deep respect and devotion by Muslims. The day commemorates the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA), the fourth Caliph of Islam and one of the most respected figures in Islamic history. Across many cities, religious processions, gatherings, and prayer ceremonies are organized to pay tribute to his legacy and contributions to Islam.
Authorities usually implement special security arrangements and traffic plans during the observance to ensure peaceful processions and public safety. Due to the large number of people participating in commemorative events, educational institutions are closed to facilitate security management and public participation.
In a related development, authorities in the federal capital Islamabad have also announced a spring break for educational institutions. Schools and colleges operating under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) will observe a spring break from March 24 to March 27.
The official notification stated that all educational institutions under the FDE in both urban and rural areas of Islamabad will remain closed during this period. The purpose of the break is to provide students and staff with a short academic pause before the announcement of annual examination results.
After the spring break concludes on March 27, all institutions will reopen on March 30. Teaching staff will be required to attend on that day to ensure the final compilation and announcement of in-house annual examination results.
