A tragic roadside accident near Hyderabad has claimed the lives of eight people, including five children, highlighting once again the growing dangers on Pakistan’s major highways. The deadly crash occurred on the Mehran Highway when a car collided with a speeding truck, police confirmed on Saturday.

According to SSP Jamshoro, the victims included five children, two men, and one woman, while two others sustained serious injuries. Rescue teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving reports of the accident and shifted the injured and deceased to a nearby hospital. The identities of the victims have not yet been officially released.

Police officials stated that the truck driver has been taken into custody and is currently being questioned as part of the investigation. A formal case has been registered, and authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the collision, including whether over speeding or negligence played a role.

Road accidents have become a persistent and alarming issue across Pakistan, particularly on highways where traffic regulations are often ignored. Law enforcement officials frequently cite reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and unsafe road conditions as major contributing factors behind such fatal incidents.

In a separate accident earlier this week, at least four people were killed and eight others injured when a truck overturned near the village of Melowal close to Bhalwal. According to Rescue 1122, the truck was carrying fodder along with 12 labourers when it lost balance and overturned, trapping several passengers underneath.

Rescue workers launched an emergency operation to retrieve those trapped beneath the vehicle. Four victims were declared dead at the scene, while the injured were shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Bhalwal for medical treatment. Authorities have yet to confirm the precise cause of that incident as well.

These tragic events underline the urgent need for stricter traffic enforcement, improved road safety measures, and greater public awareness to prevent further loss of innocent lives on Pakistan’s highways.
