A distribution box connected to Karachi’s Safe City cameras was stolen from the Clifton area, near the Sea Rock Apartments. The theft occurred at a location where the cameras were not yet operational.

According to police, the suspects used a vehicle fitted with a crane, making the theft a well-planned and organized act. DIG South Asad Raza revealed that the stolen equipment was installed at a significant height, making it impossible for one person to remove it. The area lacked proper street lighting and private CCTV cameras, further complicating the investigation and making it harder to trace the culprits.

Police teams have already begun investigating the incident and are focused on locating the vehicle involved. They believe identifying the vehicle will lead them to the group responsible for the crime.

The Karachi Safe City Project, which began in 2024, aims to enhance citywide security through advanced surveillance systems. This initiative includes the installation of high-tech cameras and monitoring systems in various parts of the city, designed to help law enforcement respond more efficiently to crimes and emergencies.

Officials acknowledge that this theft underscores the challenges of protecting newly installed public safety infrastructure. However, despite this setback, authorities are determined to continue expanding the project into other crucial areas like DHA, South, East, and Malir.

Police have assured that security measures will be enhanced at all installation sites to prevent future thefts and protect the city’s public safety investments.
