The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced a full holiday for all public and private educational institutions on Monday, November 9, 2026. The decision marks Allama Iqbal Day, the birth anniversary of the great poet, philosopher, and thinker Dr Allama Muhammad Iqbal.
According to the official notification released on Wednesday, the holiday applies to every school and educational institution working under the department’s administrative control. The move follows the recommendations of the Steering Committee on Education meeting held earlier this year on February 12, 2026. Students across Sindh will therefore enjoy a day off from classes to remember the man widely known as the spiritual father of Pakistan.
At the same time, the State Bank of Pakistan has also declared a public holiday on the same date. All offices of the central bank will remain closed on November 9. The SBP issued a separate statement confirming that its branches and offices nationwide will observe the day as a holiday in line with the national occasion.
Iqbal Day is celebrated every year on November 9. It honours the life and ideas of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, whose powerful poetry and deep philosophical thoughts inspired millions. His vision played a key role in awakening the desire for a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent. Many still regard his writings as a guiding force behind the Pakistan Movement.
This year’s holiday gives families and students a chance to reflect on Iqbal’s message of self-respect, unity, and progress. Schools often organise special assemblies, poetry recitations, and discussions about his famous works in the days leading up to the occasion. Even though classrooms will stay empty on November 9, the spirit of his teachings continues to influence the younger generation.
Parents and teachers have welcomed the announcement, saying it allows children to learn about national heroes outside the usual routine. With both educational institutions and the State Bank observing the holiday, the day is expected to be peaceful and meaningful for people across the province.
As November 9 approaches, the focus remains on remembering Allama Iqbal’s lasting contribution to the idea of Pakistan and the values he stood for.
