Barrister Salman Safdar of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf shared that Adiala jail officials finally allowed him a 40-minute meeting with former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi. The meeting happened on Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm after the lawyer had made several applications and requests.

Safdar explained that this was his first meeting with Imran Khan in seven months and with Bushra Bibi in eleven months. He posted on X that the short time was not enough to discuss every pending legal matter. Still, both Imran and Bushra updated him on their health and living conditions inside the jail. They also gave him new instructions about certain ongoing cases.

Imran Khan has been held at Adiala jail since August 2023. He faces multiple cases related to corruption and the events of May 9. He is currently serving sentences in the Al-Qadir Trust case and one Toshakhana reference involving a jewellery set. Appeals against two other Toshakhana convictions are still pending. The party has always said these cases are politically driven.

Tension around his imprisonment grew in October when PTI started a long march toward Islamabad. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi led the protest demanding Imran’s release and medical access. On October 11, President Asif Ali Zardari declared an emergency and imposed governor’s rule in the province on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The federal government pointed to security concerns and problems in counterterrorism work. After that, Afridi and several cabinet members were taken into preventive custody. PTI also claimed its provincial president Junaid Akbar was arrested.

Restrictions on meetings with Imran Khan at Adiala jail have drawn repeated criticism from his party and family. In September 2026, the Islamabad High Court ordered jail authorities to end the isolation of Imran and Bushra and to provide them facilities according to prison rules. The latest meeting shows some progress after months of limited access, though PTI continues to demand fuller rights for its leader and his wife while legal battles continue.
