PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has made it clear that the party’s parliamentary party will actively work to reverse the emergency and governor’s rule imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Speaking to reporters outside Parliament in Islamabad, Gohar shared details of a lengthy joint meeting of the PTI parliamentary party held a day earlier.
The meeting continued for eight hours and brought together around 70 members from both the National Assembly and Senate. Participants strongly condemned the imposition of emergency and governor’s rule, saying these steps had created a serious political vacuum in the province. Gohar stated that the parliamentary party would now play a key role in filling that vacuum and pressing for the complete rollback of these measures.
He added that members expressed full confidence in the party leadership and appreciated the efforts of the currently dysfunctional KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi. The group also reaffirmed support for both opposition leaders. Recommendations prepared during the session have already been shared with opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas for final approval.
Gohar firmly denied any discussion on the 28th Constitutional Amendment, clarifying that the topic was never on the agenda. He said PTI’s position remains unchanged and warned against rushed or controversial legislation that could trigger fresh crises. On the issue of new provinces, he stressed that no division should take place without the clear consent of the people and that national consensus is essential.
In a separate development, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. Both sides condemned the emergency and governor’s rule as undemocratic and demanded the immediate release of political prisoners, including the KP Chief Minister and assembly members. They also supported the idea of an all-parties conference and a new Charter of Democracy.
Nasir Abbas later criticised the PPP for what he called a highly undemocratic role in supporting the federal government’s actions in KP. He stressed the need for opposition unity and national dialogue to resolve the ongoing political crisis, while calling for the release of all political prisoners, including Imran Khan.
