Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has issued a clear warning to women, urging them not to share their photographs under any circumstances as cybercrime cases continue to rise across the country.

Speaking to journalists during an open court at the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) zonal headquarters in Lahore, Naqvi said the agency is currently receiving the highest number of complaints related to the harassment of girls. He requested women, for God’s sake, to stop sharing their pictures online to protect themselves from potential misuse.

The minister also cautioned the general public against transferring money to strangers who make online requests. He specifically advised people not to send funds even if someone claims to be sick or in urgent need. “If someone asks you for money online, do not transfer it under any circumstances,” he said firmly.

Naqvi highlighted that fake social media accounts are frequently used to defraud people. He warned citizens against falling for online scams that promise to double their money, such as turning two thousand into four thousand. He also stressed that sharing passwords over the phone can leave bank accounts completely unprotected.

According to the interior minister, a large number of women have already lodged complaints about online harassment and cyber-blackmailing. The NCCIA currently has only 61 officers across Punjab. Naqvi said he would raise the staffing shortage issue with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure faster resolution of public complaints.

He added that the government is planning an awareness campaign targeted at girls and the general public to educate them about online safety. Hundreds of individuals have already been taken into custody from illegal call centres involved in cyber fraud, showing that action is being taken.

Naqvi assured citizens that efforts are underway to address the problems of those approaching the NCCIA. He emphasised that protecting people from cyber threats remains a top priority for the government.

The minister’s remarks come at a time when online fraud and digital harassment cases are increasing, making public awareness and caution more important than ever.
