PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has clearly stated that there will be no change regarding Mahmood Khan Achakzai. Speaking to the media at Parliament House, he said the party has full confidence in Achakzai and there has been no discussion at all about replacing him with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman as opposition leader in the National Assembly.
Gohar stressed that PTI founder Imran Khan holds complete trust in Achakzai. He explained that the party has no power of its own to decide who becomes or remains the opposition leader. “We accept the PTI founder’s decision and will move forward accordingly,” Gohar said. He added that everyone in the party can share their views freely, but once a final decision is taken, the entire leadership follows it without question.
According to Gohar, Imran Khan himself named Mahmood Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas as leaders and instructed the party to work under their guidance. “The PTI founder gave me instructions, and those are what we accept and follow,” he said. He further noted that neither opposition leader has been disrespected in any way and that everything continues strictly according to the founder’s wishes. “If there had to be a minus, it would have happened by now,” Gohar remarked.
On other matters, Gohar confirmed that he has requested National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq to issue production orders for ten arrested parliamentarians. He specifically mentioned the arrests of lawmakers Adil Bazai and Chaudhry Imtiaz and said the Speaker has been informed. He also confirmed that a show-cause notice has been issued to Mishal Yousafzai, calling it an internal party matter.
Speaking later on Adiala Road, Gohar claimed that the demand for a meeting with Imran Khan was the main reason governor’s rule was imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said PTI joined talks with the government without any conditions and still wants the National Action Plan fully implemented. Gohar rejected claims that the negotiating team was taking instructions from the province and again repeated that no discussion has ever taken place about making Fazlur Rehman the opposition leader. “Mahmood Achakzai has been given authority by the PTI founder. There can be no discussion on that,” he concluded.
