A tragic Rajanpur bus crash left at least 10 people dead and 32 others injured on Wednesday when a passenger bus overturned on the Indus Highway. The vehicle was travelling from Karachi to Dera Ghazi Khan when the driver lost control near Bangla Hidayat in Rajanpur district of Punjab.
According to rescue officials, the speeding bus hit a road divider and flipped over. Local teams reached the site quickly and moved the bodies and injured passengers to nearby medical facilities. An emergency was declared at the District Headquarters Hospital in Rajanpur and other hospitals in the area to handle the sudden influx of patients.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and offered condolences to the grieving families. On her orders, the Rajanpur Deputy Commissioner arrived at the accident scene to oversee the rescue work. She also instructed officials to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and prayed for their quick recovery. The chief minister further directed authorities to take strict action against those found responsible for the incident.
Road accidents remain a serious concern across Pakistan. Speeding, reckless driving, driver fatigue, and poorly maintained vehicles are common causes. Damaged road surfaces also play a role in many such tragedies. Just a day earlier, five people lost their lives in Multan when a speeding car struck a divider. All five victims were residents of Shujaabad.
The Rajanpur bus crash once again highlights the urgent need for better highway safety measures, stricter checks on commercial vehicles, and greater awareness among drivers. Families of the victims are still waiting for support while hospitals continue treating the injured under emergency conditions.
Authorities have promised a full investigation into the cause of the accident. Local residents and travellers hope that concrete steps will follow so that similar heartbreaking incidents can be prevented in the future.
