Security forces killed seven militants during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, security sources said on Friday.

According to the sources, the operation was conducted against Fitna al-Khawarij, with security personnel targeting suspected militant hideouts in the area. The hideouts were destroyed during the operation as part of ongoing efforts to counter terrorism in the region.

Security sources said the forces remain committed to eliminating terrorism and supporting lasting peace under the Azm-e-Istehkam vision. The operation is part of continued security efforts in areas affected by militant activity.

The development came a day after security forces reported killing six militants during an operation against Fitna al-Hindustan in Kachhi district of Balochistan. According to security sources, the militants were targeted with quadcopters in the Sani area during Operation Radd-ul-Fitna 3. A significant quantity of weapons and ammunition was also recovered following the operation.

Pakistan has continued to face security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, with authorities reporting an increase in militant attacks in recent months.

Data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) showed that 225 militant attacks were recorded across Pakistan in September 2026, compared with 199 attacks in August. This represented a 13% increase and marked the third consecutive month of rising militant attacks.

Islamabad has repeatedly called on the Afghan Taliban authorities to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory for attacks inside Pakistan. Kabul has disputed Pakistan’s allegations and rejected claims that it has failed to take action.

The security situation remains a major issue between Pakistan and Afghanistan despite previous talks and ceasefire efforts. Cross-border militancy continues to be a central point of disagreement between the two countries.
