CDF Munir visit to Corps Headquarters Peshawar on Tuesday underscored the armed forces’ firm commitment to eliminate terrorism and bring lasting peace. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who serves as both Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, received a detailed briefing on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The briefing covered ongoing counterterrorism operations, border management steps, and the operational readiness of formations stationed across the province. Munir praised the high morale, professionalism and dedication of officers and troops who continue to protect the country and its citizens. He instructed all units to stay fully alert and maintain the highest level of preparedness at all times.
The army chief stressed that the armed forces, backed by the unwavering support of the nation, remain determined to defeat terrorism completely and ensure stability throughout Pakistan. During the visit he also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, offered Fateha and paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the motherland. He reaffirmed that their supreme sacrifices will never be forgotten.
The CDF Munir visit took place only days after a deadly attack on Kohat’s old Police Lines that killed 22 people, including 16 police officials and six civilians, and injured more than 100 others. Security forces later conducted a clearance operation that eliminated eight militants. Recent intelligence-based ground actions and airstrikes have also targeted militant hideouts in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and along the Afghan border.
Violence has surged in the province and in Balochistan since 2021. Data from the Centre for Research and Security Studies shows that KP and Balochistan together accounted for nearly 96 percent of all violence-related deaths in the second quarter of 2026, with KP suffering the highest number of incidents and fatalities. Despite repeated Pakistani appeals, the Afghan side has yet to prevent its territory from being used for cross-border terrorism.
Munir’s message during the Peshawar stop was clear: the armed forces will continue the fight until lasting peace is achieved.
