PTI Sept 27 protest plans have triggered a firm response from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police. Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed has ordered all officers not to help any march, rally or procession moving toward Islamabad.
In a clear letter sent to senior police officers, the IGP referred to the recent order of the Islamabad High Court. The court had already told every provincial government that state money, vehicles, staff or any official resource cannot be used for political protests. The high court also stopped authorities from forcing government employees to join political activities.
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed told his officers they must refuse any request to support the planned PTI Sept 27 protest. He instructed them to report to him at once if anyone tries to give such orders. The letter warned that any officer who breaks the court directions will face disciplinary action.
The Islamabad High Court issued its 37-page verdict after a petition challenged PTI’s nationwide protest call. The judges ruled that no political party has the right to block public roads, highways, interchanges or government buildings. Such actions, the court said, hurt ordinary citizens who need to reach schools, hospitals and workplaces. The court further declared that any march or procession by one province against another or against the federal capital is unconstitutional and illegal.
Judges also recalled the serious law and order problems that arose in Islamabad during PTI activities in May 2022 and November 2024. They directed the Islamabad administration and the Ministry of Interior to protect the rights of all residents.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has announced a countrywide protest on September 27, including a march on the federal capital. The party is demanding the release of its founder Imran Khan and calling for the supremacy of the Constitution. Party workers say preparations for the mobilisation are continuing across the country and they intend to go ahead with the planned PTI Sept 27 protest.
The latest directive from the KP police chief shows that provincial authorities are taking the high court order seriously. Officers have been told in plain words that facilitating any Islamabad-bound rally will not be allowed and will carry consequences.
