Seven killed in Thailand school shooting as student gunman opens fire
A tragic school shooting left seven people dead and 15 others wounded in Thailand on Friday. Thai national police spokesperson Trairong Phiwphan confirmed the casualties. The attack happened at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai district of Nonthaburi province, just north of Bangkok.
Police identified the gunman as a student at the school. Before heading to the campus, he killed his grandparents at their home. He later opened fire at the school and then took his own life. Lt. Col. Dechrapee Kongdee, Nonthaburi Provincial Police Commander, confirmed the details to Reuters and stated the suspect had committed suicide.
The gunman fired 26 rounds during the attack. Police recovered another 34 rounds of unused ammunition at the scene. One 18-year-old student described the terrifying moments. He first thought the noise came from firecrackers or someone banging objects. “I didn’t think it was a gun at first,” he said. “There were many shots: bang bang bang. Then it went quiet. Then it started again.”
Emergency workers rushed to the school as students fled the buildings. Photos from the scene showed ambulances parked outside and medics treating the injured. One person lay on a stretcher near an ambulance while another received care. Teachers and students were among those killed and wounded.
Debsirin Nonthaburi School had about 3,100 students and 147 teachers enrolled in the 2025 academic year, according to district authorities. The large campus turned into a scene of chaos within minutes.
This incident marks another violent episode at a Thai school. In February, a separate shooting in Hat Yai district in southern Thailand killed a teacher and injured a student. Authorities continue to investigate the latest attack and the gunman’s motives. Families of the victims and the wider community are left grieving after the sudden loss of life on what should have been an ordinary school day.
Police are still gathering more information about the sequence of events. The focus remains on supporting the wounded and providing answers to the families affected by this Thailand school shooting.
