Pakistan secured a comfortable eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second Test to level the two-match series 1-1 at Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday. The Babar Azam-led side chased down a modest target of 75 runs in just 23.3 overs, losing only their two openers along the way.
The win marked Pakistan’s first away Test triumph since 2023, when they defeated Sri Lanka on their own soil. After lunch on the fourth day, the visitors needed only 18 more runs. Babar Azam sealed the result with a second consecutive six off Jomel Warrican in the sixth over of the session.
Abdullah Shafique, who had already scored an unbeaten 160 in the first innings, remained not out on 24 from 51 balls. Captain Babar Azam also finished unbeaten on 24, featuring two sixes and two fours. The pair guided the team home after early setbacks.
Pakistan began their chase shakily. Jayden Seales dismissed Imam-ul-Haq for nine, caught at slip in the fifth over with the score at 15. Emerging opener Azan Awais then added 27 runs with Shafique before being bowled by Shamar Joseph for 18. That brought Babar Azam to the crease, and the captain and Shafique steadied the innings to complete the win.
Earlier, the West Indies resumed their second innings at 103 for six. They managed only 14 more runs for the loss of their last three wickets, finishing at 117 all out in 46.1 overs. Brandon King did not bat because of a lower-back injury. Left-arm spinner Usman struck early, removing Kemar Roach for a duck. Justin Greaves and Shamar Joseph added a brief 12-run stand before falling in successive overs to Mohammad Ali and Usman.
Sajid and Usman shared the bowling honours with four wickets each in the second innings, while pacer Mohammad Ali claimed one. The performance gave Pakistan a much-needed boost and levelled a hard-fought series on the road.
