Pakistan captain Babar Azam has matched the legendary Imran Khan for the most Player of the Series awards won by any Pakistani cricketer across all international formats. The right-hander reached the landmark after an impressive showing in the recently concluded Test series against the West Indies.
Babar finished the two-match tour as the leading run-scorer with 193 runs in four innings at a remarkable average of 96.50. He was reinstated as Test captain ahead of the series, replacing Shan Masood, and quickly justified the decision with consistent performances.
He started quietly with 23 in the first innings of the opening Test but responded with a determined half-century in a tough chase. In the second match he played a crucial 88 that helped Pakistan secure a useful 43-run lead. He then sealed the series with an unbeaten 24 off just 30 balls, including two sixes and two fours, as Pakistan comfortably chased a modest target of 75.
His contribution earned him a share of the Player of the Series award with West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves. For Babar this was his first such honour in Test cricket. He already held five awards in T20 internationals and four in ODIs, taking his overall tally to ten.
That figure now puts him level with two of Pakistan’s greatest all-rounders. Imran Khan also collected ten Player of the Series awards (eight in Tests and two in ODIs). Wasim Akram sits alongside them with the same total, while Waqar Younis remains just behind with nine.
At 31, Babar has joined an exclusive group of Pakistani greats. The milestone arrives after a strong return to the Test captaincy and underlines his status as one of the country’s most consistent performers across formats. Fans and analysts have noted that matching Imran Khan on this particular list carries special significance in Pakistan cricket history.
The series win in the Caribbean has given the team fresh momentum, and Babar’s personal achievement adds an extra layer of satisfaction for supporters. With the record now shared, attention will turn to whether he can move clear in future series.
