Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has left for a one-day trip to Amman, Jordan. He will take part in the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem scheduled for August 5. The Foreign Office confirmed the details of this important diplomatic engagement.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi stated that during the visit, Dar will strongly reaffirm Pakistan’s firm and continuous support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate cause. He is also expected to hold several bilateral meetings with other foreign ministers attending the gathering. These discussions will cover key regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The meeting will bring together foreign ministers from the Arab League along with representatives from a group of Islamic countries that includes Pakistan. The main goal is to develop a clear and united position on the rapidly worsening situation in occupied Jerusalem. Dar is travelling to Amman at the invitation of Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Al Safadi.
All participating foreign ministers will also meet Jordan’s King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein during the visit. The Foreign Office described Dar’s presence at the ministerial meeting as clear proof of Pakistan’s principled stand. It shows the country’s lasting commitment to the creation of an independent, sovereign and contiguous state of Palestine. This state should be based on the pre-1967 borders and have Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Pakistan and other Muslim nations have repeatedly condemned in the strongest possible language the ongoing intrusions by extremist Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Haram Al-Sharif. These actions take place under the protection of Israeli forces and even include the raising of the Israeli flag inside the courtyards. In a joint statement issued in June, the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Turkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates declared that such provocative steps form a serious violation of international law, relevant United Nations resolutions, and the long-standing historical and legal status of the holy sites in occupied East Jerusalem.
The Foreign Office has also strongly criticised the continued and organised violations by Israel as the occupying power. These measures aim to change the historical, legal and demographic character of occupied East Jerusalem while damaging the sanctity of its Islamic and Christian holy places. Pakistan remains fully committed to standing with the Palestinian people at this critical time.
