Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed a full performance review of all federal ministries and divisions. This move comes after Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made remarks that triggered public discussion about the government’s overall results. Official sources say the exercise will also open the door for a possible cabinet reshuffle.
The Prime Minister’s Office has issued formal instructions to every ministry and division. They must submit detailed reports covering their work from February 2024 until now. Each report has to follow a fixed format and show clear achievements, policy progress, governance reforms, and steps taken to improve public services.
The review will examine 18 ministries linked to economic and financial matters, 14 ministries handling law, security and administration, and nine ministries focused on social services, health and education. Officials must list completed projects with exact results and dates. They also need to explain every pending project, the reasons for delay, the problems faced, and the corrective steps already taken.
Administrative reforms, cost-cutting measures and efforts to raise institutional efficiency form another key part of the reports. The PM Office has made it clear that every claim must come with solid documentary proof. Unsupported statements or incomplete submissions will not be accepted.
The evaluation will further check how development funds were used and what results public sector projects actually delivered. It will also look at the work of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Authority, the Planning Commission, the Annual Development Programme, the effects of economic policies, improvements in the national census system, public-private partnership outcomes, and special programmes run by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Government sources confirm that the findings of this performance review will guide decisions on any changes in the federal cabinet. The goal is to strengthen governance and raise administrative efficiency across the board. Ministries have already started preparing their reports so the process can move forward without delay.
