The United States has launched fresh strikes on Iran, escalating a conflict that has increasingly spread across the Middle East and involved more countries.

US Central Command said American forces began striking Iran on Wednesday evening in response to what it described as attempted Iranian attacks on US forces stationed in the region. The latest military action came as fighting intensified across several fronts.

Earlier in the day, a drone reportedly struck a US-owned gas storage tanker at Egypt’s Mediterranean port of Damietta, according to maritime security firm Ambrey. Egypt’s petroleum ministry confirmed a fire at the port but did not confirm that a drone caused it or identify those responsible.

At the same time, US and Saudi forces launched strikes against Iran-aligned groups in Iraq, while Iran reported missile attacks targeting US troops in Jordan. The developments have raised fears that the conflict could pull more countries directly into the fighting.

US President Donald Trump had earlier promised retaliation after Iranian attacks on American troops. Despite his warning, Trump also said Washington remained interested in reaching a peace agreement with Tehran.

Iran confirmed that it had targeted US bases in Jordan and ships in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas shipments. Tehran also rejected an Omani proposal for joint management of the strategic waterway.

The escalating conflict has already affected global energy markets. Brent crude prices climbed more than 8%, pushing oil above $90 a barrel as investors reacted to growing concerns over disruptions to regional energy supplies.

In Iraq, the latest US and Saudi strikes reportedly killed at least 20 members of paramilitary groups and wounded dozens more. Iraqi officials condemned the attacks and warned against further escalation.

Jordan also reported intercepting several Iranian missiles. Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed attacks on US military installations and tankers near the Strait of Hormuz, deepening concerns that the conflict could develop into a much wider regional war.
