Pakistan has strongly condemned the recent Houthi ballistic missile attacks on Saudi Arabia, reaffirming its full support for the Kingdom’s security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. The statement was delivered by Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) focused on the ongoing crisis in Yemen.
Speaking before the Security Council, Ambassador Jadoon emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity in accordance with the United Nations Charter and international law. He stressed that growing instability in the Middle East requires immediate diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
Pakistan’s remarks came after Saudi Arabia announced that its air defense systems successfully intercepted ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi movement from Yemen toward the Kingdom’s southern region. Islamabad described the attacks as a threat to regional peace and reiterated its solidarity with Saudi Arabia during this challenging period.
The Pakistani envoy called on all parties to prioritize dialogue, diplomacy, and de-escalation, noting that a lasting solution to the Yemen conflict can only be achieved through a UN facilitated, Yemeni led political process. He welcomed the earlier prisoner exchange agreement, describing it as proof that constructive negotiations can produce meaningful progress even during prolonged conflicts.
Highlighting the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen, Ambassador Jadoon warned that millions of civilians continue to suffer from displacement, food insecurity, economic hardship, and limited access to essential services. He cautioned that renewed violence would only deepen the humanitarian emergency and reduce hopes for a nationwide ceasefire.
Pakistan also condemned the continued detention of UN personnel, humanitarian workers, and diplomatic staff by the Houthis. The envoy called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained individuals and urged respect for UN facilities, personnel, and international humanitarian law.
Reaffirming its commitment to regional stability, Pakistan pledged continued support for peaceful dialogue, diplomatic engagement, and UN led efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting political settlement in Yemen.
