Pakistan has called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and honor the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) following renewed military tensions between the United States and Iran. The appeal came after both countries exchanged strikes overnight, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

In an official statement, the Foreign Office (FO) expressed deep concern over the latest escalation and stressed that renewed conflict would only threaten regional peace and stability. The FO emphasized that dialogue, diplomacy, and continued engagement remain the only practical path toward achieving lasting peace.

The statement referred to the Islamabad MoU, a 14 point interim agreement signed last month between the United States and Iran. The agreement was designed to halt hostilities and ensure the safe reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Pakistan urged all sides to respect the commitments made under the agreement and avoid actions that could undermine its objectives.

The latest escalation followed reports that Iran targeted US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait after American forces carried out strikes on Iranian targets in response to attacks on commercial vessels operating in the Strait of Hormuz. The renewed violence has weakened hopes that the temporary agreement could eventually develop into a permanent peace settlement.

The Foreign Office reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts and is prepared to continue playing a constructive role in promoting regional stability. Officials stated that the Islamabad MoU should remain the foundation for mutual understanding, cooperation, and long term peace.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump declared that the interim agreement was effectively over and indicated that further military action against Iran remained possible. His remarks increased uncertainty in global markets, with oil prices rising sharply as concerns grew over the security of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Pakistan continues to encourage all stakeholders to resolve differences through peaceful negotiations and prevent further escalation that could impact regional and global stability.
