The Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has officially launched a pilot project for the Asset Performance Management System (APMS) to modernize its electricity distribution network. The initiative follows the directives of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and is designed to improve operational efficiency, reduce power losses, and enhance customer service across the region.

To ensure the successful execution of the project, MEPCO Chief Executive Officer Engineer Gul Muhammad Zahid has been appointed as the Project Director for APMS. He will supervise the implementation process and ensure that the project meets its objectives within the planned timeline.

During the initial phase, the APMS will be introduced on 15 selected feeders across the MEPCO distribution network. The advanced system will provide real time monitoring of transformer level energy flow, electricity billing, recovery performance, line losses, and other key operational activities. This will help improve transparency while allowing the company to identify and address inefficiencies more effectively.

The project also includes transformer coding, consumer to transformer tagging, GIS mapping, installation of scanning meters, transformer level energy accounting, and seamless integration with the Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) digital systems and dashboards. These modern technologies will provide accurate operational data and support faster decision making.

According to an official order issued by Chief Human Resource and Career Planning Officer Mian Muhammad Sohail Afzal, MEPCO will allocate the required financial, technical, and human resources to complete the project successfully. The company will also maintain regular coordination with field teams, hold periodic review meetings, and submit weekly progress reports to the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and the Power Planning and Monitoring Company (PPMC).

The primary goal of the MEPCO APMS pilot project is to reduce commercial losses, improve bill recovery, increase electricity sales, and deliver better quality services to consumers. The availability of reliable transformer level data is expected to strengthen resource management, improve network performance, and support the company’s long term digital transformation strategy.
