The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has confirmed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan recently met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to discuss the worsening security situation in KP, especially after the deadly attack in Bannu.
PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram said the meeting mainly focused on improving coordination between institutions and discussing ways to control terrorism in the province. According to him, the discussion was entirely related to law and order and no political matters were discussed during the meeting.
The meeting came after a major clash in Bannu, where two police officers and two civilians were martyred, while security forces and local peace committee members successfully eliminated 25 militants during the operation. The incident once again highlighted the growing security challenges in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Akram also dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding the participation of Aleema Khan, the sister of PTI founder Imran Khan. He clarified that only CM Sohail Afridi and Barrister Gohar attended the meeting with Mohsin Naqvi.
Aleema Khan herself also denied being part of the discussion, stating that neither she nor any member of the Khan family had knowledge of the meeting beforehand. Her statement came after claims made online suggesting she attended the gathering.
Later, Chief Minister Afridi also shared details about the meeting on X, explaining that the talks were strictly about terrorism incidents in Bannu and the province’s overall law and order situation. He emphasized that reports claiming political discussions took place were incorrect.
Sources revealed that the meeting was held at Barrister Gohar’s residence. Meanwhile, PTI continues to raise concerns regarding restricted meetings with jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, despite court orders allowing regular visits from family members, lawyers, and associates.
