US authorities successfully foiled a serious alleged plot to attack the White House during a high-profile UFC fight night attended by President Donald Trump and senior officials. The FBI announced on Tuesday that multiple individuals are now in custody following a swift multi-state operation that stopped the planned assault cold.
According to reports, the alleged scheme involved using explosive drones to strike buildings near the White House while thousands of fans watched the UFC Freedom 250 event on the South Lawn. The goal was reportedly to cause chaos and trigger a mass evacuation that would push crowds toward a pre-positioned sniper team. A second wave was allegedly planned to storm the White House gates directly.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the success of the operation on X, praising the rapid response of the FBI, its partners, and the Department of Justice. Fox News reported that at least five people had been taken into custody, with investigators tracking a larger network of up to 23 potential plotters who communicated through a Signal group chat.
The dramatic event took place on Sunday, coinciding with President Trump’s 80th birthday celebrations for America’s 250th independence anniversary. A special fighting arena called “The Claw” was set up on the White House grounds for the occasion. Vice President JD Vance, who also attended, described the alleged plan as a “coordinated planned terrorist plot” and linked it to broader concerns about rising threats from radical groups.
The FBI learned of the potential threat on June 10 and worked closely with the US Secret Service, which heightened security around the event. The White House remains one of the most heavily protected sites in the world, with advanced surveillance, anti-air defenses, and rapid response teams.
This incident adds to the growing list of security challenges faced by the Trump administration. President Trump has survived multiple assassination attempts in recent years. While details about the suspects’ identities and exact motivations remain limited, Vance used the moment to criticize Democratic rhetoric, claiming it contributes to political violence.
Authorities continue to investigate funding and coordination networks. The swift action prevented what could have been a major national security incident during a symbolic celebration
