Trump backs Infantino as the right leader for FIFA and warns that removing him would be a huge error for the organization.

US President Donald Trump has strongly defended FIFA President Gianni Infantino amid growing criticism. In a recent Truth Social post, Trump called Infantino “fantastic” and said FIFA would make a “terrible mistake” if it even thought about replacing him. He praised Infantino for delivering the most successful World Cup ever, claiming it was four times more successful and profitable than any previous tournament. Trump added that if Infantino leaves, the event will never reach the same level of success or profit again.

Infantino currently faces pressure over allegations of a workplace affair and criticism linked to a failed private investment plan. He has denied any wrongdoing. FIFA itself has stood by its president, describing the backlash as a coordinated attempt by some groups to weaken the organization. Infantino is due for reelection next March.

Not everyone shares Trump’s view. US Soccer released a statement criticizing Infantino. Canada Soccer and several football bodies from Central America and the Caribbean also joined in the criticism. On the other side, the Confederation of African Football and South American governing body Conmebol have publicly supported Infantino, aligning with Trump’s position.

The strong endorsement from the US President comes at a sensitive time for FIFA. The organization is still riding high from the recent World Cup hosted across North America, which ended with Spain facing Argentina in the final at the New York/New Jersey Stadium. Trump appeared alongside Infantino during the trophy presentation, underlining the close ties between the American leader and the FIFA chief.

Supporters of Infantino argue that his leadership has brought record revenues and global attention to the sport. Critics, however, want greater accountability and transparency inside FIFA. Trump’s clear message leaves little doubt about where he stands. He believes keeping Infantino in charge is essential for the continued growth and financial health of the world’s biggest football tournament.

As the debate continues, football fans and officials will watch closely to see whether Infantino can overcome the current challenges and secure another term. For now, the US President’s backing gives the FIFA leader a powerful ally on the world stage.
