Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly reaffirmed that Pakistan stands shoulder to shoulder with Saudi Arabia in protecting its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. The assurance came during a meeting with the newly appointed Saudi Ambassador Dr Rajeh Tami Albugamy in Islamabad on Friday.

Welcoming the envoy, the premier congratulated him on taking charge of his new responsibilities and wished him success in strengthening the already close ties between the two brotherly countries. PM Shehbaz noted that relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have seen remarkable progress in recent years. He expressed the government’s full commitment to further expanding cooperation through existing institutional mechanisms across multiple sectors.

The prime minister strongly condemned the recent increase in Houthi attacks on Saudi targets. These attacks have caused the loss of precious lives and injured many innocent people, including Pakistani nationals. A day earlier, the Saudi-led coalition reported that Houthis had tried to strike dozens of airports, ports and oil facilities. Coalition officials said the group launched 20 attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh this month alone, killing 17 people and wounding 333 others.

During the meeting, PM Shehbaz highlighted the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Alliance as historic milestones in the long-standing fraternal relationship. He said these agreements clearly show the shared commitment of both nations to regional peace and security.

The premier also thanked the Saudi leadership for its continuous economic and financial support to Pakistan over the years. He assured the ambassador of Islamabad’s complete cooperation in further deepening the strong bonds that have always existed between the two countries.

The meeting once again underlined the special nature of Pakistan–Saudi Arabia relations, which remain rooted in mutual trust, shared faith and common interests in a stable and secure region.
