Russia has claimed a major development in the ongoing Russia Ukraine war, saying its forces have captured the strategic city of Kostiantynivka in eastern Ukraine.
According to Russian officials, the city was taken after heavy military operations in the Donetsk region, which remains one of the most important battle zones in the conflict. Russian President Vladimir Putin was informed of the development by senior military commanders and praised it as a major strategic success.
Videos released by Russian media showed Putin visiting a command post and receiving updates from top military officials, including General Valery Gerasimov. Gerasimov stated that Russian forces are continuing offensive operations to gain full control of the Donbas area.
Russian authorities described Kostiantynivka as a key transport hub and industrial center, making its capture highly significant for future military operations. The city has long been considered one of Ukraine’s major defensive strongholds in the east.
Ukraine has not yet officially commented on Russia’s claim. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has previously said that Russian advances in eastern Ukraine have slowed in recent months, and Kyiv’s forces had regained some territory.
Russia also stated that its military is advancing toward Lyman, another strategic location in the region. At the same time, Moscow has indicated plans to expand security zones near border areas in response to increasing Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil facilities.
The conflict, now in its fifth year, continues with no immediate peace breakthrough, as international diplomatic efforts remain stalled.
