The Punjab government has launched its first-ever e-taxi scheme as part of its Transport Vision 2030 initiative. Under this scheme, 1,100 electric taxis will be introduced to the streets, aiming to promote eco-friendly transport in urban areas.
Goal of the Scheme
The initiative seeks to reduce air pollution, lower fuel costs, and create new job opportunities for citizens. Interested individuals can apply for the program online until October 5, 2025. To ease the financial burden, the government will offer subsidized down payments and cover interest payments.
Financing Support
Partner banks will finance the remaining amount, ensuring that drivers and entrepreneurs can access the vehicles with ease. The program will provide down payment subsidies of 585,000 PKR for vehicles priced between 4 million and 10 million PKR, making electric taxis more affordable. This effort supports the government’s push toward clean energy in the transport sector.
AI Integration in Education and Transport
In addition to the e-taxi initiative, Pakistan has introduced its first AI-powered teacher, named Aini, showcasing the country’s growing interest in technology and innovation. Furthermore, a financing plan for electric vehicles has been approved, further bolstering the nation’s sustainable transport efforts.
A Step Towards a Greener Future
This e-taxi scheme is a significant milestone for Punjab, contributing to a cleaner, greener, and modern transport system. It aligns with global trends in sustainable mobility, making it an essential step in the province’s eco-friendly development.
