Pakistan’s men’s football team delivered a memorable performance by defeating Maldives 3-0 in the Diamond Jubilee Four Nation Football Tournament, ending a long wait for an international victory and reviving hopes of reaching the tournament final.

The impressive result not only secured three valuable points but also marked Pakistan’s first international victory over Maldives since 1991. It was also the team’s first international win in 961 days, making the achievement even more significant for players and supporters.

Pakistan entered the match under pressure after opening the tournament with a goalless draw against Bangladesh. A positive result was crucial to remain in contention for the final. Despite creating opportunities, both teams failed to break the deadlock in the first half.

The breakthrough arrived in the 54th minute when Umar Nawaz scored his first international goal for Pakistan. The young forward found the back of the net in only his second appearance for the national team and his first international start.

Umar’s football journey is particularly inspiring. His family was deeply affected by the tragic Army Public School attack in Peshawar in 2014. Following the incident, the family relocated to the United Kingdom, where Umar developed his football skills before earning a place in Pakistan’s national squad.

Pakistan continued to dominate as the match entered its final stages. Abdul Samad Arshad doubled the lead in the 84th minute, giving Pakistan a comfortable advantage. Just three minutes later, Harun Hamid added a third goal, sealing a convincing victory for the Green Shirts.

The win has significantly boosted Pakistan’s chances of reaching the final. With four points from two matches after drawing with Bangladesh and defeating Maldives, Pakistan now sits in a strong position in the standings.

The national team will face Afghanistan in its final league-stage match on June 7. A positive result could secure a place in the tournament final scheduled for June 10 and provide another major milestone for Pakistan football.
