Pakistan’s security forces have killed 29 militants during a series of intelligence based operations and precision strikes targeting terrorist hideouts along the Pakistan Afghanistan border. According to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the operations were launched in response to recent terrorist attacks that targeted civilians in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and a Pakistan Rangers camp in Karachi.
Tarar said the first operation took place in Bajaur district on June 28, where security forces acted on credible intelligence regarding the presence of militants linked to the banned Jamaat ul Ahrar and Fitna al Khawarij. During the operation, security personnel eliminated Khan Farosh, also known as Zabal, who was described as a senior militant commander. Three additional militants were also killed, while several others were injured during the exchange.
Following the successful intelligence based operation, Pakistan launched precision strikes overnight as part of Operation Ghazab lil Haq. The strikes targeted militant camps and hideouts located in the border regions of Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar. According to the minister, all three identified targets were successfully destroyed, resulting in the deaths of 25 more militants. Large quantities of weapons, explosives, and ammunition stored at these locations were also destroyed.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting national security and ensuring peace across the country. Tarar stated that Pakistan would continue its counterterrorism campaign under the Azm e Istehkam strategy to eliminate foreign sponsored terrorism and strengthen border security.
Pakistan has experienced an increase in militant attacks since 2021, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Security operations have intensified over the past few years as authorities continue efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating near the border. Despite several rounds of diplomatic engagement between Pakistan and Afghanistan, security concerns remain a major challenge, with officials stressing that counterterrorism operations will continue whenever necessary to safeguard the country’s peace and stability.
