A senior Nadra official has gone missing in Karachi, sparking serious concern among his family and human rights organizations. Fayyaz Ahmed, an employee of the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) and son of veteran journalist Sohail Sangi, has not been heard from since Monday evening.
According to his family, Fayyaz left his office around 6pm on Monday but never reached home. His mobile phone has been switched off since then, causing deep worry and anxiety for his loved ones. The family has reached out to top police officials, including the Sindh Inspector General of Police, relevant Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). A formal written complaint has also been lodged with the authorities.
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has taken serious notice of the incident. In an official statement, the commission expressed grave concern over the disappearance of Fayyaz Ahmed, who is also the son of HRCP Council member Sohail Sangi. HRCP has strongly urged the Sindh government to take immediate and effective steps for his safe and early recovery.
The case has raised alarm bells in media and human rights circles, especially given Fayyaz’s connection to a prominent senior journalist. As of now, no further details about his possible whereabouts or any contact from him have emerged. Police have initiated an inquiry following the family’s complaint.
This incident has once again highlighted the issue of missing persons in Karachi, a matter that has long been a source of concern for families and rights groups across Sindh.
