New CCTV footage emerges in Mir Raza Ali murder case
Fresh CCTV footage has come to light in the ongoing probe into the killing of young businessman Mir Raza Ali. Police are carefully studying several recordings to piece together his last movements before the tragedy.
Raza, an IBA graduate, had returned home from his shop on the night of July 28. He left again shortly after, telling his family he would return in about ten minutes. His body was later found in the bushes in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi.
One video captured between 10 pm and 11 pm shows Mir Raza inside his kitchen. He takes a pistol from a drawer, checks it, and then places it in his car before driving away. Investigators believe he may have headed back home after that. Another recording from around 4:38 am shows him walking alone on foot, only a short distance from where his body was discovered. Sources say this appears to be the final known CCTV footage of him.
Before leaving home the second time, Mir Raza left behind his smartwatch, wallet, and house keys. His parents say he only took his mobile phone and about Rs 1,000 in cash. He then booked an online taxi.
Police have recovered his mobile phone roughly 200 yards from the crime scene. A pistol holster was also found nearby. Both items have been sent for forensic examination, though the phone report is still awaited.
The taxi was booked around 4:02 am. The driver told investigators he dropped Mir Raza on a deserted road near the rear of Gulistan-e-Johar Block 1. The victim’s cloud kitchen was located some distance from that point. Investigators currently believe he may never have reached the kitchen, as no traces of him were found there. Important items from the premises have already been collected.
While earlier footage shows Mir Raza handling the pistol, police have not confirmed whether he was carrying the weapon when he later left in the taxi. The camera that recorded him boarding the vehicle was positioned quite far away, so it is hard to tell.
Police continue examining all available CCTV recordings, forensic material, and other leads to establish the full circumstances of the murder.
