Four youths martyred when a landmine that drifted from the Indian side exploded near the Line of Control in Poonch. The incident took place in Mehndla Madarpur village and has left the local community in deep shock.
According to the AJK Directorate General of Public Relations, the four young men had gone out as part of their daily routine to repair a water pipeline near a spring close to Mahandlah and Madarpur villages. While they were working, the landmine exploded without warning. All four lost their lives on the spot.
The victims have been identified as Faizan Sagheer, Ishtiaq, Asim Rafiq and Waqas Sharif. News of their deaths spread quickly through the area, plunging families and neighbours into mourning. Residents expressed profound grief and anger over the sudden loss of young lives engaged in simple community work.
The DGPR highlighted that people and livestock living near the LoC continue to face serious danger. The difficult terrain, unclear border markings and landmines that drift across from the Indian side create an ongoing threat for those living in these remote villages.
This latest tragedy adds to recent tension along the border. Earlier this month, two Pakistani civilians were killed by Indian Border Security Force personnel in the Bedian Sector along the International Border. Pakistan’s Foreign Office strongly condemned the incident, calling the use of lethal force against unarmed civilians completely unjustified and disproportionate. The Indian Charge d’Affaires was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that a formal protest could be lodged.
Local officials stress that the risk remains high for anyone working or moving near the Line of Control. Families in the affected villages are now calling for greater protection and clearer measures to stop further loss of civilian life. The explosion has once again drawn attention to the human cost of the unresolved border situation and the constant danger posed by drifting landmines.
Community members gathered to offer prayers and support to the bereaved families. Many described the four young men as hardworking and helpful neighbours who were simply trying to fix a basic water supply for their area. Their sudden deaths have left a painful void in the close-knit community.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation while urging residents to remain extremely cautious in the sensitive zones near the LoC.
