A tragic incident has shaken residents of a private housing society in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area. On Tuesday, rescue officials recovered the bodies of five members of the same family from a house. The deceased include a man, two women and two young girls.
Police identified the victims as 40-year-old Shahzaib, his 40-year-old wife Saba, their daughters Arya and Aizal aged four and five, and Shahzaib’s 18-year-old sister Shumaila. Authorities currently treat the case as a possible suicide after finding a note written by Shahzaib.
In the note, Shahzaib reportedly mentioned serious financial difficulties. Police said he had been unemployed for some time and was struggling to manage household expenses. He had been selling property inherited from his late father to meet daily needs, but the pressure continued to grow.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho took notice of the incident and ordered a detailed report from the deputy inspector general. The police chief instructed officers to carry out a transparent and impartial investigation. He directed teams to collect evidence from the scene, conduct forensic examinations and complete all legal formalities without delay.
The IG further asked officials to examine every angle of the case, including any possible criminal involvement. He stressed the need for regular updates on the progress of the inquiry so that the true circumstances of the five deaths can be established.
This incident comes only weeks after a similar tragedy in Karachi’s Ahsanabad area in the Site neighbourhood. In that earlier case, five bodies belonging to a man, his wife and their three children were found in a flat. Police had also suspected suicide. The man, identified as Dr Umar, had been unemployed because of illness and was facing a severe financial crisis.
Residents of Gulshan-e-Hadeed expressed shock and grief after learning of the latest deaths. Local police sealed the house and continued their investigation. Officials confirmed that all necessary steps are being taken to determine the exact sequence of events and to provide clarity to the grieving community.
The discovery of five bodies from one family has once again highlighted the heavy burden of financial stress that many households in the city continue to face. Authorities have promised a thorough probe so that the facts surrounding this painful case become fully known.
