England delivered a dominant performance at Trent Bridge on Tuesday, crushing India by 125 runs to register the visitors’ biggest defeat by runs in T20 International history. The convincing victory also handed England a 2-0 lead in the four match series after the opening game was abandoned due to rain.

Batting first, England posted an impressive 201 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. Phil Salt led the charge with a brilliant 70-run knock, giving the hosts a solid foundation. Despite a few wickets falling in the middle overs, England maintained an aggressive scoring rate and crossed the 200 run mark, putting significant pressure on India’s batting lineup.

In reply, India’s batting collapsed spectacularly, managing only 76 runs before being bowled out in less than 12 overs. No batter was able to build a meaningful partnership as England’s pace attack completely dominated from the opening over. India’s total barely surpassed Salt’s individual score, highlighting the scale of their disappointing performance.

The star performers with the ball were Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue, who consistently bowled at speeds exceeding 145 km/h (90 mph). Their pace, bounce and accuracy proved too much for the Indian batters. Tongue produced career best figures of 4 wickets for 28 runs, while Archer claimed 3 wickets for 29 runs, dismantling India’s top order within the powerplay.

The defeat marked India’s heaviest ever loss by runs in T20 Internationals, surpassing their previous record of an 80 run defeat against New Zealand in Wellington in 2019. The result also continued India’s recent struggles in the shortest format, coming shortly after their unexpected 2-0 T20I series defeat against Ireland in Belfast.

England will now head into the remaining two matches full of confidence, while India must regroup quickly and improve both their batting and bowling if they hope to avoid a series defeat.
