Eleven police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Sarwar Road Police Station, have been booked after mistakenly raiding the Lahore residence of Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan. The incident has sparked concerns over police procedures and accountability, with authorities launching an investigation into how the operation was carried out.
According to Punjab Police, the raiding team had received information regarding a neighbouring property, but officers mistakenly entered the Attorney General’s residence during the operation. Officials admitted that the wrong house was targeted, leading to the registration of an FIR against the officers involved.
The complaint was filed by Irfan, the Attorney General’s driver, who alleged that the SHO and several police personnel climbed over the main gate before entering the property. He said only domestic staff were present inside the house because Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan was attending an official meeting at the time.
Irfan further claimed that police officers removed the home’s CCTV surveillance system during the raid. Although the digital video recorder (DVR) was later returned, he alleged that its footage had been deleted before it was handed back. He also stated that several flower pots and items outside the residence were damaged during the operation.
The FIR states that the officers exceeded their legal authority by conducting the raid without proper verification of the address. Following the incident, Punjab Police registered a case against 11 officials, including the SHO, to determine whether they violated legal procedures while carrying out the operation.
After being informed about the raid, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan returned to his residence, where he was briefed on the incident. Authorities have confirmed that an internal inquiry is underway to establish responsibility and ensure accountability.
Meanwhile, the SHO of Sarwar Road Police Station has secured interim bail from a local court. The investigation continues as officials examine the circumstances surrounding the mistaken raid and review police operational procedures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
