A gun attack targeting well known religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Jhelum was successfully foiled after a swift response by police, officials confirmed. The incident took place outside the Quran and Sunnah Academy while the scholar was delivering his routine lecture.
According to reports, an unidentified attacker suddenly opened indiscriminate fire, creating panic among attendees. However, due to the quick action of security personnel present at the scene, the situation was brought under control before it could escalate into a major tragedy. Engineer Mirza remained completely unharmed, which came as a relief to his followers.
During the attack, a police constable identified as Ahsan sustained a bullet injury to his leg while performing his duty. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical treatment. No other injuries or casualties were reported.
Police officials stated that the attacker was neutralised during an exchange of fire, highlighting the effectiveness of the law enforcement response. Authorities believe that the prompt action helped prevent a potentially serious incident and ensured the safety of people present at the academy.
Following the incident, Regional Police Officer Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani took immediate notice and ordered a detailed investigation. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to identify any possible facilitators or accomplices involved in the attack. Evidence collection has already begun, and security measures in the surrounding area have been significantly increased.
This is not the first time the scholar has been targeted. Earlier this year, a similar attempt was made during a public interaction, but the suspect was arrested. The repeated incidents have raised concerns about the security of public figures and the need for stronger protective measures.
Authorities have assured that all necessary steps will be taken to maintain law and order and prevent such incidents in the future.
