The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced stricter hotel security protocols for PSL franchises following a recent incident involving Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sikandar Raza. The move aims to ensure tight compliance with tournament security regulations and prevent unauthorized access to team accommodations.
According to reports, Afridi and Raza allegedly brought individuals into their hotel room without prior approval, prompting concerns from law enforcement. A letter from the Punjab Police accused the players of violating established protocols and urged the PCB to take firm action.
In response, Lahore Qalandars fined captain Shaheen Afridi 1 million rupees as part of internal disciplinary measures. Sikandar Raza later clarified that the guests were his friends and family, brought in by Afridi at his request. He accepted full responsibility, stating that any breach was unintentional and due to unclear communication of the rules.
The PCB has now reinforced its stance by issuing updated guidelines to all PSL franchises. According to the new directives, only immediate family members—including spouse, parents, siblings, and children—will be allowed into players’ rooms, and only with 24 hours’ prior notice.
For other guests, meetings must be arranged in designated hotel areas, away from team floors. The PCB emphasized that these measures are crucial for maintaining the security and operational integrity of all participating teams.
An official email reiterated the importance of franchise cooperation, stating that adherence to these protocols is essential for the smooth conduct of the tournament. The PCB’s decision reflects a broader commitment to discipline, safety, and professionalism within the league.
As the PSL continues, the board remains vigilant in enforcing its policies, ensuring that all players and staff operate within clearly defined boundaries to uphold the reputation and security of the event.
