The Punjab government has announced a major step to strengthen security and surveillance by establishing anti drone units across the province. These units will operate in every district and will be responsible for detecting and disabling unauthorised drones used by enemies or miscreants.

According to the Punjab Home Department, the newly planned units will use advanced jamming technology to neutralise suspicious drones flying in restricted areas. The main purpose of this initiative is to prevent potential threats and ensure better monitoring of district airspace.

Officials explained that the anti drone units will also conduct aerial surveillance using specialised drone fleets. These surveillance drones will help authorities closely observe the skies and detect any suspicious activity. The move is part of the government’s broader plan to improve public safety and security infrastructure throughout Punjab.

Each anti drone unit will function under the supervision of the District Police Officer (DPO) of the respective district. The Home Department stated that the DPO will manage the operation and control systems used to disable hostile drones. This district level command structure will allow quicker responses to security threats.

Authorities said the technology being introduced will effectively jam communication signals of illegal drones, forcing them to stop functioning or land safely. This will help security agencies prevent the misuse of drones for surveillance, smuggling, or attacks.

The decision comes shortly after the federal government imposed a nationwide ban on drone operations due to rising security concerns. Tensions increased after border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which raised alarms about possible drone related threats.

The Home Department also reminded the public that Section 144 is currently enforced across Punjab, which strictly prohibits the flying of outdoor drones by civilians. The ban was introduced to reduce security risks and prevent misuse of drone technology.

Officials believe that the establishment of anti drone units in Punjab will significantly enhance monitoring capabilities and help law enforcement agencies respond quickly to emerging threats, ensuring the safety and protection of citizens across the province.
