Rose Byrne has secured another major honour for her powerful performance in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, directed by Mary Bronstein. This latest recognition marks her second significant achievement of the awards season, following her Golden Globe win for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical earlier this year.

The Best Lead Actress race remains highly competitive, with Jessie Buckley gaining attention for her role in Hamnet. However, Byrne continues to stand out, having won several critics’ awards. She previously won the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Lead Performance and the Silver Bear for Best Leading Performance at the Berlin International Film Festival, further strengthening her position as a top contender this season.

In her acceptance speech, the Bridesmaids star praised independent cinema and proudly acknowledged her Australian roots. She described her character, Linda, as fierce, gracious, and complex, emphasizing that such a role could only flourish within the creative space of an independent film.

In the gender-neutral lead performance category, Byrne was nominated alongside Everett Blunck, Kathleen Chalfant, Chang Chen, Joel Edgerton, Dylan O’Brien, Keke Palmer, Théodore Pellerin, Tessa Thompson, and Ben Whishaw.

Notably, last year’s winner, Mikey Madison, went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Anora. Byrne is now also nominated at the upcoming Academy Awards, scheduled for March 15, where she hopes to continue her remarkable awards season run.
