Babar Azam, Pakistan’s star batter and former captain, has been fined 10% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating its Code of Conduct. The incident took place during Pakistan’s third One-Day International (ODI) match against Sri Lanka on November 14, 2025, at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

According to the ICC, Babar violated Article 2.2 of the ICC Code, which addresses the abuse of cricket equipment, ground equipment, and other fixtures during an international match. The breach occurred when Babar hit the stumps with his bat after being dismissed during the 21st over of Pakistan’s innings. Despite the outburst, Babar scored 34 runs off 52 deliveries before being dismissed by Jeffrey Vandersay.

A demerit point was also added to Babar’s disciplinary record, marking this as his first offence in a 24-month period. The sanction was confirmed by on-field umpires Alex Wharf and Rashid Riaz, along with third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi. The decision to impose the fine was recommended by Ali Naqvi, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.

Babar admitted to the offence and accepted the penalty, avoiding a formal hearing. The breach is classified as a Level 1 offence, with penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine and demerit points.

Despite Babar’s dismissal, Pakistan went on to complete a series sweep against Sri Lanka, securing a six-wicket victory in the final ODI.
