A Markhor hunting permit in Gilgit-Baltistan has been sold for a record-breaking PKR 100 million (approximately 370,000 US dollars), marking the highest price ever paid for such a permit in Pakistan’s trophy hunting history.
This permit allows the hunting of an Astor Markhor, a rare wild goat species native to the Nanga Parbat Conservancy area. The successful bidder was a hunting safari owner who participated in the official auction held at the Forests, Parks, and Wildlife Complex, where other rare animal permits were also available for sale.
According to officials, the funds generated from these hunting permits are often allocated to wildlife conservation efforts and supporting local communities residing near these animal habitats. Trophy hunting is carefully regulated, with only a limited number of permits issued each year to ensure the preservation of the species.
